I did not feel at home where I lived. I did not feel at home with my parents either. More than anything, I just wanted to leave. I felt stuck, lost, and disconnected from everything around me.
Around that period, I was also thinking about moving to Brussels to start a completely new life there. I had this strong feeling that I needed to get away, because I no longer felt at home in the place where I was. Everything inside me was saying the same thing: go.
Not long after making this work, I would leave for Nepal. But this painting was made just before that journey, in the middle of a period where my mind was full of thoughts and questions.
I felt like I belonged nowhere.
And because of that, I also felt lost in myself.
This work grew from that feeling of confusion. From not knowing where to go, what the next step should be, or how to move forward after everything I had been through. At that moment, everything felt uncertain. Everything felt like one big question mark.
That is also why I added a reset button into the work.
Because deep down, that was what I wanted most.
To reset everything.
To start over.
To clear my head and begin again, because I felt like I could not continue with things the way they were.
For me, Nobody Here is about disconnection, confusion, and the feeling of being emotionally untethered. It captures a moment where I felt physically present, but emotionally nowhere. A moment of searching for a place, a direction, or maybe even a version of life that finally felt like home.
