Instead of immediately jumping into the pool, he sits at the edge and reflects on his life. He thinks about the things he is still holding on to and what he needs to release in order to move forward.
The balloons floating away represent these attachments, thoughts and emotions. Each balloon is something he is slowly learning to let go of.
Perhaps, by releasing what is holding him back, he will one day find the courage to jump into the water. To stop focusing on the black-and-white world around him and fully enter a world of freedom, colour and possibility.
For me, this work is about letting go, feeling different and finding the courage to move forward, even when the environment around you does not completely understand who you are.
